5 days remaining of the school year! Students have little to do but teachers are planning, grading, finalizing, praying, writing, reading, posting, drinking, sleeping and crying/laughing. The end of the year always makes me a bit crazy. I found that as the days twinkle by, I have more things to do and have no idea where to start. From cleaning my classroom to finishing up grades, to writing report card comments, to creating awards and planning the last three days of school, everything seems to be happening all at once. On top of that, taking two grad classes is making time seem to completely evaporate. I am sure that all of us are a bit stressed.
I wonder, how do you deal with stress? What is the end of the year like for you? What do you do to make sure that you don't lose your mind?
On a side-note: I'm glad that I started working on school stuff early this week so that I could have some time to work on stuff for my school.
I feel your stress! I too am enrolled in 2 summer classes, and have 3 more days with students. On top of that, I have a bunch of doctors appointments because my baby is due in 2 short months!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I try to get ahead with grad school when I find the time so I don't get too overwhelmed. Whenever I have a block of time - whether it be my planning period or when students are taking a test - I use it wisely. I grade or do some organization so I am always involved with some school-related task that needs to get done. Thankfully, I lost about 50% of my class size last week when my seniors graduated. That has helped the work load, plus my remaining high school students are pretty helpful with some classroom clean-up. Also, we have 2 teacher work days next week which I will use to finalize my grading and get all of my long-term sub info together since I won't be returning until November 11th!
Best of luck with your end-of-the-year craziness!
Congratulations on the baby!!! Is this your first? I cannot wait to have my own kids but want to finish my degree first before I start planning it all out (I'm a planner...).
DeleteWe have a full week of teacher work weeks which will be nice to have everything finished. My goal is to have my report card comments, class cleaned up and all grad school work finished by the end of Monday.
I hope the doctor appointments go well!
Tell me about it! This past week was the last full week of school for my students. Friday should have been there last day but they are making up a snow day on Monday, which is only a half day. We lucked out though because we were waived the other 2 days that we should have made up. So the last week of school at my school is utter craziness. We have a gigantic field day with rock walls, water slides, moon bounces etc. I came down with step throat last weekend and had to miss school on Monday and Tuesday which also meant that I missed field day. I returned to school on Wednesday feeling super stressed to get everything done! I had to have report cards finished by Friday and I kind of had to treat Friday as the last day because I have several students that are unable to make it to school on Monday. So I have made it through most of the stress and now just have a half day with students which will mostly consist of them helping me to clean up my classroom and then a teacher workday on Tuesday. Then I am done! Oh and I am only taking 1 grad class a semester because I also have a 2 year old at home that keeps me busy! Next week I will thankfully be able to focus more on this class though because I can get a lot of work done during my little one's nap time!
